Brenda & the Tabulations were an American R&B group formed in 1966 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, originally composed of Brenda Payton, Eddie L. Jackson, Maurice Coates and Jerry Jones. The group had a distinctive, almost doo wop sound, especially at the start, featuring Payton's sweet occasionally rough-edged vocals with background male harmonies. Brenda and the Tabulations burst onto the scene during the classic mid- 60s soul years with ‘Dry Your Eyes‘, on the Dionn label, reaching the R&B Top 10 and 20 in the Hot 100, and enjoyed a succession of crossover hits with soulful ballads in the ensuing five years on Dionn and subsequently Top & Bottom Records in their home city o. The album closes on the high energy I Keep Coming Back For More. Technically there were no Tabulations during this Chocolate City sessions, it is more of a solo album using the Tabulations brand, however it is a great album and brilliant concept. Brenda Payton was a diva in the best sense of the word. She was talented, beautiful and one of the nicest people to work with. Sadly she passed away on June 14, 1992, but her legacy and body of work with be with us forever. I recommend this to all those fans of disco and music from the mid 70’s.

Sadly, the groups' first and only album on Top & Bottom Records dropped before the release of their biggest record on the label, "Right on the Tip of My Tongue. Still, you have airy soul delights like "The Touch of You," a good seller in many R&B markets that features an endearing whisper/vocal from Brenda Payton. The more rhythmic "And My Heart Sang (Tra La La)" didn't fare as well, and nothing else on the LP ever surfaced.
