Itzhak Perlman plays the three violin sonatas by Johannes Brahms, accompanied by Daniel Barenboim. However, I found tis concert unusually fresh and alive. I hope it finds a place alongside the best. anyone captivated by this album should turn to Perlman's equally vital Kreutzer Sonata with Argerich on EMI, also a live event. 2 people found this helpful.

As in so many other aspects of his output, Brahms was intensely self-critical about his violin sonatas. He composed his first as early as 1853, when he was just 20, which he probably played privately with his friends, and may well have written at least four more, all of which were destroyed

Itzhak Perlman about to play the National Anthem at Citi Field in New York City in 2016. Background information. Perlman first became interested in the violin after hearing a classical music performance on the radio. At the age of three, he was denied admission to the Shulamit Conservatory for being too small to hold a violin. He instead taught himself how to play the instrument using a toy fiddle until he was old enough to study with Rivka Goldgart at the Shulamit Conservatory and at the Academy of Music in Tel Aviv, where he gave his first.
