John Denver's Greatest Hits was American singer-songwriter John Denver's first compilation album, released in late 1973 for the holiday shopping season. A version known as The Best of John Denver with the same track listing was released in some countries. The collection included material from his earlier days as a songwriter (going back to 1965 on "For Bobbie") to his later hit "Rocky Mountain High".

Features Song Lyrics for Denver John's John Denver Greatest Hits Volume 3 album. Denver John - John Denver Greatest Hits Volume 3 Album Lyrics. 2. The Gold And Beyond Lyrics. 3. Some Days Are Diamonds (Some Days Are Stones) Lyrics.

1 originally released on Plácido Domingo's album Perhaps Love. 2 previously unreleased. 3 previously unreleased, but appeared on ABC Sports' 1984 Winter Olympics program The Gold and Beyond - hosted by Jim McKay and John Denver.

By the end of the '70s, John Denver was still a star, but he didn't have many hits. That situation didn't improve in the early '80s, as his records started sliding slowly down the charts. This is the era that Greatest Hits, Vol. 3 covers - one that found Denver's popularity fading, but not necessarily his skills. Sure, his songs don't sound as effortless or charming as they used to, but the best moments from these years (most of which are captured on this compilation) illustrate that he was still capable of crafting ingratiating folk-pop songs.

This 3 Cd set of John Denver's hits was a disappointment. I have many of his other CDs, including another greatest hits album and live recordings. There are so many of the songs on this that his voice sounds tinny and his rendition not filled with his usual enthusiasm. It's almost as if these were practice songs for the others.
