Underground Album is Coe's follow-up to his 1978 album Nothing Sacred. The album was generally criticized as being profane, racist, and crude.

New York Noise covers roughly the same stretch of time as In the Beginning There Was Rhythm, another compilation from the reliable Soul Jazz label. In the Beginning features post-punk groups from England, while this disc highlights the genre-bending and cultural cross-breeding that was taking place in New York City, synchronously, during the late '70s and early '80s.

New York Noise (Dance Music From The New York Underground 1978-1982) ‎(CD, Comp). And it may be an obvious tune to drop, but Dinosaur L's "Go Bang" is infinitely preferable to the cheesy "Clean On Your Bean" included here (and if you had to include a lesser known Arthur Russell tune on the album, why not "Wax The Van"?). A new version of Last.

New York Noise is a comprehensive look at the post-punk and no wave era, a short period in time whose influence is still immeasurable and sensed today. Logically coinciding with the compilation’s initial and main motivation, the album set out to chronicle New York’s underground avant-garde scenario: the birth of no wave, the negation of punk rock and, most importantly, in such a short period of time, the unfolding of a culture which, by its own terms, wasn’t a culture according to those day’s requirements. No wave was, above all, the denial of culture. New York Noise had significant importance when it came out in 2003 - precisely because, at that time, the city itself was experiencing a post-punk revival.

Follows the construction of the New York City subway system in the early 1900s. Title: New York Underground (17 Feb 1997). Includes the various accidents that made improvements necessary, the switch from steam engines to electric tracks, the stories that made newspaper headlines throughout the early part of the 1900s, and newsreel footage of various stages of progress that led to the ultimate underground system we have today. The latter footage is extremely interesting for history buffs who enjoy seeing how New York City looked when the railroad was being constructed.
